Thenmala

Thenmala is a tourist place near Punalur city, Kollam district in Kerala. The first eco tourism project in India is located at Thenmala. The Thenmala dam was built across Kallada River. Thenmala is famous for being the shooting location in Malayalam and Tamil movies. Other places near Thenmala are Anchal, Punalur, Kamukumchery and Shenkottah. Themala is 72 km from Thiruvanathapuram and 16 km from Palaruvi Falls.

Built under the Kallada Irrigation and Tree Crop development project, it is the second largest irrigation project in Kerala. The dam impounds the longest reservoir in the State. Waters from the reservoir is now used for power generation also.
