IDUKKI
Idukki is one among the 14 districts of Kerala state, India. The district headquarters is located at Painavu. District borders with the State of Tamilnadu, districts of Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Thrissur.
Attractions
Idukki is known for the splendid green mountains, streams and spices. It is one of the a main tourist destinations in Kerala with its hill stations, such as Devikulam surrounded by lush hills and tea plantations, and its valleys. The famous resort Thekkady (Periyar Tiger Reserve), is in Idukki District. Munnar is another hill resort of the district. Mattupetty is about 11 km away from Munnar. Mattupetty, is the headquarters of the Indo-Swiss Cattle Project. Mattupetty Dam is also here.
Access
The district is accessible only by road. Rail and Air link are not available. National Highway NH 49 and State highgway 13 and 33 pass through the district. There are also a number of places like Edamalakudy which are not accessible even by Roads. Air - Nearest Airports are Madurai (Tamil Nadu) 140 Kms, Kochi (Nedumbassery - 190 Km), Thiruvananthapuram (265 Kms).
Rail - Nearest Railway Station is Kumarakom 114 kms and Madurai station is about 136 kms.
Road - An excellent road network links the district to all major towns and cities in india.
